The Australia wide Telstra EBA Protected Action Ballot (CWU members only) will commence next Monday 21 January 2019 and closes on Monday February 25, 2019 at 10am. The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) will conduct the ballot. There is a 4 week window in which to return the ballot to the AEC via the post.
Nationally, we must achieve:
1) greater than 50% of votes returned, and
2) greater than 50% of the returns in the affirmative (endorsing the protected industrial action)
You will be contacted by members of our Branch Committee of Management and other activists over the next few weeks, encouraging you to return your ballot paper with a YES vote. Don’t leave it to others, we want a high return rate to demonstrate CWU members endorse this action. That will enable the commencement of a period of Protected Industrial Action, in order to pressure Telstra to properly negotiate an improvement on the terrible 1.5% p/a offer they have currently tabled.
Victoria has historically been the driving force of Telstra led Industrial Action and we are already battle hardened. It is imperative we send a resonant message to Telstra that a wage increase of 1.5% is a wage cut and hardly compares with increased cost of living.
There will be a (Telstra) members hook up on Monday the 21st at 7pm, for further information and any questions you may have.
