Telstra EA – No Change To Redundancy Payout

NO CHANGE TO REDUNDANCY PAYOUTS
Telstra has formally confirmed that it will not be seeking any changes to employees’ redundancy payout entitlements in the current round of enterprise bargaining.

The 80+ (maximum) redundancy payout will remain in the new Enterprise Agreement.

Telstra’s letter confirming this commitment can be found at the union website at www.cwu.org.au. It puts paid once and for all to the misinformation about this issue that has been circulating in the union.

In reality these entitlements were never under threat from the Telstra award modernisation process, despite what many members have been encouraged to believe.

And in fact at no stage in the preparations for bargaining – or before – has there been any indication that Telstra was moving to try to change this entitlement.

Misinformation campaign exposed.

The so-called “threat” to the 80+ weeks’ payout has simply been part of a “scare” campaign run by some in the union. Its aim has been to undermine members’ confidence in their elected national leadership.

That is why at the first bargaining meeting (12 May) the CWU and other Telstra unions asked for an early indication from Telstra of its position on this issue.

That would let members judge for themselves how real the threat to their entitlements actually was.

Members now have their answer.

So it’s time for them to ask a few questions of their own!

·         Are those who deliberately create uncertainty and division in the union really acting in the union’s best interests?

·         Who stands to gain from undermining members’ confidence in their union through spreading misinformation?
our national EA bargaining representatives, Len Cooper and Ken Hardisty, are national officials who have been elected by the whole national membership of the CWU.

They are committed to achieving a good outcome for you in these negotiations on the basis of the feedback they have received from state branch members about their priorities in this round of bargaining.

Updates on the negotiations will be provided regularly to members via the special Bargaining Bulletins at www.cwu.org.au.
