TAX RECEIPTS

Its tax time again and the good news is that CWU membership fees are tax deductible. We do not issue annual financial year statements unless required by you. If you wish to know your contributions for the last financial year, then email office@cwu.asn.au and we will respond with a receipt.

TZV EBA ISSUES

Negotiations with TZV have been frustrating. Proposals seem to change as we question details. At the moment we do not have any firm proposal. The proposed new structure remains fully explained. Do we need a new 6 level structure with complications? And we have the faceless men and women in Government interfering, rendering negotiations non genuine.
On top off this we have a new Minister. We have an election in Victoria coming up and the Government will go into a caretaker mode soon meaning no agreement can progress from that point. We may even have a new Government after the election.
We will meet with the CEO this week to seek some answers.

TELSTRA JOB DESCRIPTIONS REPLY OPTICAL FIBRE

Telstra has responded as set out below. The response is not acceptable. It is true that the Magistrate's Decision only applied to the claimant. But he was representative of many Optical Fibre employees. Telstra then upgraded about 35 more members. But no criteria have been explained. We see no reason why others in our claim are not also upgraded. We will meet shortly to determine our response.

TELSTRA RESPONSE OPTICAL FIBRE

RE: Letter from Shane Murphy: Request for Clarification of Classification Criteria CFW5 Optical Fibre Work
We refer to your correspondence dated 21 June 2026.
As previously stated, Workstream roles at Telstra are classified by reference to the current Core Job Descriptions (CJDs) which are incorporated into Telstra's Enterprise Agreements (EA). Telstra continues to assess the requirements and accountabilities of the work against the CJDs.
In relation to your request for information on the assessment used for those employees who were offered an upgrade based on the proposed updated CFW5 Communications Technician CJD, Telstra has already provided this to you in our correspondence dated 5 September 2025. Should the employees noted in Annexure A have concerns about their classification, they can raise these with their people leader in the first instance.
We maintain that the Magistrates Court decision was an individual matter, and Telstra has complied with all Court orders.
Telstra remains committed to progressing the CJD review constructively with the CWU, including discussions about optical fibre related work, to provide greater clarity and certainty to our people and the business. This is otherwise likely to be a significant issue for resolution in 2027 EA negotiations.

TELSTRA MORE REDUNDANCIES AND OFFSHORING

Telstra has advised: We have commenced consultation on proposed changes across Telstra as we work towards achieving our Connected Future 30 Strategy. The proposed changes impact Telstra Consumer, Telstra Business, People, Culture & Capability, Telstra Enterprise, Strategy & Finance, Corporate Affairs, Risk & Legal and Amplitel. The total reductions are 134. Some 66 new positions are established, but a significant (but unknown) number will be offshore and thus not available to Australians. We have sought more information. If you have any issues arising, please contact us.
