NBN START OF DAY CASE We were ready for the hearing and the case started this week. However it was adjourned after some debate. The matter is listed for further directions hearing this week. Would members please advise us if you encounter any harassment in relation to settlement/offer acceptance. We reported last week that the NBN offer was soundly rejected by members. There has been no developments since apart from the adjournment. FUEL COSTS AND MILEAGE ALLOWANCE The sudden cost increases in the price of fuel has led to demands for an increased mileage allowance. Aus Post has agreed to an additional 85c/km for Retail workers travelling between Post retail outlets in their private vehicles (with a cap of 7km). Techs who sometimes use their private vehicles to travel to outstations have not been included. (Note that Post has a special clause in the EBA that facilitates the claim for increased compensation.) We will follow up if you are a member and affected. We note that the ACTU is considering an Award application to also address the issue. The Aus Tax Office rate is currently 88c/km. LEE WALKINGTON - LIFE MEMBERSHIP On Saturday 28 March, we held a ceremony in Sydney to bestow Life Membership on Lee Walkington. Lee has contributed significantly to our Branch and its former identity (ATEA) for many years. Lee was particularly involved in the asbestos matters and represented our Branch in these matters. We congratulate Lee on behalf of our members.
