TECHNICAL AND SERVICES BRANCH WEEKLY BULLETIN 2025

Number 31       20 September 2026

ATTENTION TZV SUPPORT MEMBERS

This week we will be sending you a special Bulletin which will update progress in the EBA dispute. If you have not received it by COB Wednesday, please contact our office on 03 9663 6815 office@cwu.asn.au. There may be several reasons if you have not received the email. They include: Our records do not show you as a Support staff member (cf. Ops member). Or it is in the spam or junk folder. Or it is blocked by TZV.

TZV SUPPORT DISPUTE SPECIAL NOTE

We have created a special web page to hold all links and information re the dispute. It may be updated during each week and between bulletins. See the TZV Support EBA Central on our web site for the latest developments and the history.

TZV SUPPORT DISPUTE

CWU has a subcommittee considering all actions associated with the dispute. At times we will hold a general meeting on Zoom to cover important updates and seek your input. We will this week file an application with the FWC seeking orders for the AEC to conduct a ballot of members. The Ballot will ask you to approve about 23 types of industrial action. The industrial actions are bans and limitations. We will publish the list of bans and more information on the TZV Support EBA Central web site as soon as it is filed.

OTHER NEWS ROUNDUP

While we are heavily involved in TZV, we have other negotiations under way without significant developments. This includes TPG and BAI EBA negotiations. We intend to file a claim for correct payment when an RDO falls on a public holiday.

SUPER UNDER ATTACK ON ANOTHER FRONT

Recently, we emailed you after Pauline Hanson said our super system was 'broken' and voiced her support for reducing our 12% super guarantee. Now, only 3 weeks later, Pauline and One Nation have announced their plan to break our superannuation system themselves and leave working Australians worse off in retirement.
When working Australians are doing it tough, Pauline is saying it's on us to sacrifice our futures and dip into our super contributions rather than go after big businesses making record profits for another year. Why is it our fault, Pauline?
Experts say this policy will cost the average working Australian $25,000 in retirement.
Super gives working Australians a secure and dignified retirement that doesn't rely on Government. The super system saves Australians BILLIONS of tax dollars that would go towards pensions, letting working people control their own retirements.

UNIONS NSW UNPAID OVERTIME SURVEY

For too many Australian workers, those 11 weeks are being swallowed up by unpaid overtime.
Our new report, Working for Free The New Normal, reveals just how widespread unpaid work has become.
88% of workers are regularly working beyond their paid hours, giving away an average of 7.8 hours of unpaid labour every week. That's the equivalent of more than 11 weeks of free work every year - worth almost $22,000 in lost wages for a worker on the average salary.
And the cost isn't just financial. 82% of workers say unpaid overtime is affecting their lives outside work, while 83% say it is affecting their physical or mental health. For many workers, working for free is no longer an occasional request. It's becoming an expectation.
77% believe their workplace relies on them doing unpaid overtime.
78% fear their career or employment would be negatively affected if they refused.
75% regularly work unpaid overtime on weekends.
63% say their workplace doesn't even have a formal overtime policy.
At the same time, new technologies like AI are changing the way we work. Workers are being asked to do more, faster, with productivity gains too often translating into more work - rather than more time back.
Working for free should never be the price of keeping your job. That's why we're launching our campaign to give workers their time back, pushing for five weeks annual leave and more public holidays. Every hour worked should be an hour paid. Join the campaign
