TECHNICAL AND SERVICES BRANCH WEEKLY BULLETIN 2024

Number 31       28 July 2024

AUS POST - NEW CONTRACT DISPUTE TO FWC 5 AUG

Last week we reported on some clauses of concern with the Post contracts. These are a requirement if you are promoted. See Bulletin 29 of 2024
We filed a dispute in the Fair Work Commission seeking to resolve the dispute. FWC has listed the conciliation conference on 4 August.

TZV EBA PROGRESS

We met this week to resolve some technical matters in the EBA wording. There are no outstanding matters (this does not mean that some may arise as we reread the draft). It is expected that it will go to government for confirmation this week. See the Heads of Agreement page

TZV RESTRUCTURE AND REDUNDANCIES

We have been advised that TZV is conducting a review of "back of House" roles which may identify some potential redundancies. So far only 2 potential redundancies have been identified in the Office of the CEO (OCEO) and in People Culture and Performance (PCP). Two other areas are subject to review: Governance & Strategy (G&S) and Financial & Commercial Services (F&CS)
Corporate Services will commence consultations and talk to each Department. Any member who needs assistance in the matter should contact me.

NBN OVERTIME

I am receiving reports of issues with call outs, start of Day and End of Day payments. Now that some pay cycles have occurred, I intend to have a phone hook to hear the issues and plan a way forward. Watch the Bulletins.

NOKIA CHANGE TO MONTHLY PAY

We have identified a number of members who have had their pay cycle unilaterally changed to monthly, despite their transfer of business (from Optus) conditions specifying fortnightly. Members have registered their objection with us. We spoke with Nokia and wrote to them summarising our position. We concluded the email as follows:
We therefore seek that Nokia restore fortnightly pay. If Nokia does not agree, we will consider making a Court application

We did not receive a response. We will make that Court application seeking restoration of fortnightly pay for our members who have objected and penalties. (We cannot ask for all as some staff may be OK with monthly pay).

TELSTRA JOB FAMILY

The conditions associated with Job Family are still creating concerns for members, particularly where Job Family members receive less pay compared to Workstream members. This is getting worse as even Rating 3 (ME) staff are not guaranteed the standard wage rises. And Telstra punishes you permanently even if you happen to get a Rating of 2.
Our Branch is working on a strategy to challenge these practices. We will advise further.

TELSTRA REDUNDANCIES

There have been briefings on the numerous redundancies as Telstra shed about 9% of its (so they say) valuable staff. We have a number of members who would swap'n'go. But NOT ONE who wants to stay. If any member has a concern, please contact us.
