TECHNICAL AND SERVICES BRANCH WEEKLY BULLETIN 2024

Number 33       12 August 2024

LATE NEWS - VALE - BERNARD STABB

We received news of the death of another long standing Victorian member and ATEA supported - Bernard Stabb. We have no further details at this time.

NBN EBA AND OVERTIME

The nominal expiry date of the NBN EBA is 24 April 2025 - about 7 months away. We will soon begin the process of negotiating the new EBA. This is likely to be a difficult process given the recent issues concerning contracts. We will hold a hookup of members and others in 2 weeks time. The issues we wish to discuss in detail is overtime and other allowances. We will advise the date and time on next weeks Bulletin. (This meeting will be arranged by our Branch on our Zoom link - it will not involve a management hook-up - so look for our link next week.

TZV (ESTA) EBA

Work continues on this as the Vic Govt departments assess the agreed proposals. This week we met to discuss some technical issues with the wording of the EBA.

TZV (ESTA) BALLARAT

This week we met with TZV to hear of the proposals re the "Operational Dispatch Resilience Ballarat Capability Uplift - Training Pilot Proposal". The meeting concluded with TZV undertaking to provide more detail. Some of the issues were (a) the need for more resources to be able to undertake the pilot and (b) the viability of even undertaking the pilot before this year's fire season. We will advise further.

AUS POST CONTRACTS

This week we attended a FWC conciliation with Post re their new contracts. (See previous Bulletins re the issues). The matter was effectively adjourned as Post revealed that new contracts have been proposed. We have seen the proposed new contracts and they are considerably better. However we need to ascertain the status of the contracts and why thewy have not been used as yet.

TELSTRA REDUNDANCIES

Telstra has confirmed their decision to go ahead with a number of initiatives (eg abandoning the last initiative on Agile). We questioned the suitability of widespread use of Agile at the time. Telstra advised:
- There will be a new, simplified structure for Telstra Enterprise, including re-shaping and focusing our tech services business, shifting away from Agile for customer-facing teams, removing duplication and management layers, and making changes to customer delivery teams. This reset of our Enterprise business will take time and we need to remain flexible to industry and market dynamics and customer trends such as declining legacy products.
- Across P&T and GN&T we will reduce the size of some teams. They will change structures to better support our Enterprise reset, simplify our products and services, reflect reduced demand for legacy technologies, streamline delivery, and sharpen our focus in areas where we are differentiated.
- In Consumer, we're changing our operating model in some areas so we have the right capabilities, skills and structure. This includes reshaping support for frontline teams to remove complexity and create better tools and processes, as well as responding to reduced demand for specific work.
- GBS teams will be integrated into the function they most closely align with. There will also be proposed role reductions that reflect opportunities to work more simply and efficiently.
- We will reduce, simplify, and improve how we work in InfraCo, S&F, PC&C, SEAL, and Telstra Business.
- And as part of our broader cost work, we will also reduce the number of Executive roles across the business by around 15 per cent since the start of the year.
