Welcome back.
We have a busy start to the year with several EBAs being negotiated (Optus, NBN, TZV Support). We have several Court matters on foot where we are seeking that the employer comply with the law (Optus, NBN, Nokia) and the Telstra classification case to finish. We also have the TZV appeal against our win in the Mentoring case. And then there are numerous member matters which are usually confidential. And just to keep us awake at night, we are involved in policy matters affecting your future.
We wish to invite delegates from the job to assist us. Do you wish to step up and literally expand your knowledge of the industrial systems and practices? Email us. We will also employ a new industrial officer this is a priority matter.

14 September 2024 - TRIBUTE TO COL COOPER
When the Prime Minister attends a function and pays tribute to a person, then you know that person is a giant in their field.
Today, at a function organised by family and friends of our former Branch and Union Official, Colin Cooper, was remembered by the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Col passed away on 1 August 2024.
Col was a giant in industrial relations in Australia.
While our Branch is now part of CEPU, it was formerly a stand alone Union known as the PTTA and later the ATEA.
Col was an official for many years and won many game changing battles as advancing technology impacted heavily on jobs and skills.

TELSTRA INCREASES PRICES
BUT NOT PAY
In our survey, many members pointed to the 5% increase in Telstra prices. No 5% flow on to workers, just a margin for extra profit. You would have seen their letters to their customers:

4 June 2024 - Telstra Pay Offer
Telstra has advised of its offers following the series of negotiations:The important points are:
  - 4.0% wage increase in 2024
  - 3.5% wage increase in 2025
  - 3.0% wage increase in 2026
  - Telstra has agreed to superannuation will be increased at Telstra's cost
  - For Job Family employees, the increases will go into a wage pool
  - Allowances to increase by the same quantum except for the following:
  -- Essential Customer Servicing to increase by 25% in 2024
  -- Retail relocation allowance will increase to $30, from $21.92
Notwithstanding the offer, the vast majority of our claims have been rejected.
Even some cost neutral claims were rejected (eg that Job Family members meeting expectations be guaranteed the increases, not just 1%)

6 November 2023 - PRESENTATION TO LIFE MEMBERS
On 4th November 2023, we held an informal function to present Life Member Certificates to 5 members and officials. This is in recognition to their long and valuable service to the CWU and ATEA/ATPOA. These officials were part on the history of industrial relations. In their time the ATEA/ATPOA led a number of fights for changes to our working conditions. Click for the full story.
